U5-U8's (Coaches Training)

New: Sachem Soccer - Coach Training Sessions

SYSL will be providing all U5-U8 Coaches with Long Island Professional Soccer (LIPS) Coach Training Sessions.

Coaches are encouraged to train their teams with their peer coaches as a group on their scheduled SYSL Team Practice days listed below. These are suggested practices but may be changed on a Team by Team basis.

Working with fellow coaches after their coach training sessions, they will be able to help each other coach their players together.

Our goal as Intramural Coaches is to work together to make Sachem Players the best they can be to start competing against other clubs when they are ready.

SYSL is counting on our Intramural Coaches collaborating to improve all our player's skills more to make this happen, winning games in house is secondary, partner up to help each other out and prepare our players to compete with other clubs.

All U5-U8 Game Formats

U5 – 3v3 Micro - 2012 Birth Year

The game format will be played on a 20W X 30L yard field with pop-up "Pugg"style goals. When

the ball goes out of bounds, coaches will play it in via by tossing a ball in play they are holding

during game play. This method helps keep the play moving, allows the coaches to provide the

tempo and allow players to get involved who normally may not have the opportunity to get the

ball in other settings. Substitutions will be made on all game stoppages. Teams will play 3v3

game format. Game will consist of a size 3 soccer ball, no goalkeepers, no offsides. There will

be no referee for game as the coaches are expected to maintain game tempo and manage from

within the field of play.

U6 – 4v4 - 2011 Birth Year

The game format will be played on a 20W X 30L yard field with pop-up "Pugg" style goals.

Methods of starting and/or restarting playing play will be kick offs, free kicks, throw ins, goal

kicks and corner kicks. Kick Ins and/or dribble ins are also accepted. Since corner flags are no

longer needed and a goal box is no longer indicated on field layout, the corner kicks and goal

kicks should be taken in the general area of the respective goal or corner. Substitutions will be

made on all game stoppages. All games will consist of four 10 minute quarters with a 5 minute

break between each quarter. Referees are NOT provided to officiate each game so all coaches

ARE EXPECTED to manage the game environment from the sidelines by using best judgement

and the standards of play provided. There will be no offside, no penalty kicks. All free kicks

should be indirect if used. Players are expected to be 10 feet from ball on all restarts.

U7 – 4v4 - 2010 Birth Year

The game format will be played on a 20W X 30L yard mini field with goals having a maximum

size of 4ft x 6ft. Methods of starting and/or restarting playing play will be kick offs, free kicks,

throw ins, goal kicks and corner kicks. Kick ins and/or dribble ins are also accepted. Since

corner kicks and goal kicks should be taken in the general area of the respective goal or corner.

quarters with a 5 minute break between each quarter. Referees are NOT provided to officiate

each game so coaches ARE EXPECTED to manage the game environment from the sidelines

kicks. All free kicks should be indirect if used. Players are expected to be 10 feet from ball on

all restarts.
